Here in Bali, bamboo is redefining the rules of architecture and design. We believe the future must be both beautiful and sustainable. The Bamboo U 11 Day course follows a detailed curriculum taking you through the whole life cycle of bamboo, from sustainable forestry to design and construction. Each topic is supported by both theoretical lectures and hands on workshops.

In-depth principles on Designing​ with Bamboo

5 Day Course

In this 5- Day Designing Bamboo Building course you will learn not only the design fundamentals and why bamboo is very different from construction materials like, steel or timber but also the specifics ways of putting together a bamboo building, the structural and materials palettes available, drawings and modelling methods, jointing systems practiced and skills required. This course will showcase bioclimatic principles and ‘passive’ design, the design and build aspects of site identification, from early inception design to completion and maintenance.

5 Day Workshop

Engage manually with bamboo by creating your own furniture, products or architectural concept models under the guidance of designers and architects from the Bamboo U team, as well as the master carpenters from the IBUKU team.

3 Day Course

Throughout this course you will learn about bamboo as plant and as a material, visit our processing factory and engage manually with the material making scaled models using handcrafted bamboo sticks and making traditional  bamboo joinery techniques by working hands under the guidance of master carpenters.
