In this module, we go through what you need to know before taking this online course. This includes what you'll learn about in the course, as well as how to receive support from the Bamboo U team and fellow course participants in the platform.

This module explains why and how bamboo deteriorates - biotic (eg. fungi, insects) and abiotic factors (moisture, cracks, weathering) and what happens if bamboo goes untreated.

This module dives into boron-based treatment solutions and how to reuse and dispose of the solution. You will learn both small- and medium to large-scale treatment methods and the tools required for each, including VSD, Cold Immersion, Hot Immersion, Boucher, and Modified Boucher. In this module, we will also cover traditional techniques for treating bamboo and the pros and cons for each.

You’ll learn how to preserve and maintain your bamboo after you treat it. This will include instructions on cleaning and drying poles, storage, testing the bamboo for treatment, testing the solution for reuse, and indicators of poorly treated bamboo.

This module sets you up with what you need to know to set up your own small or medium-scale treatment facility including a sample layout and equipment list you will need for your facility.

To wrap up the course learnings, this module looks at how to design a bamboo building so it will last.
