Your Backyard
Bamboo is susceptible to insects like termites, borers, the powderpost beetle, and even fungi. If not treated properly, bamboo products and structures will only last a few years before they are eaten to dust. But don’t get discouraged, there are many ways in which bamboo can be treated. In this article, we are going to talk about a special low-tech treatment option, the Vertical Soak Diffusion, or VSD.

As architects and designers we need a medium to express our ideas and bring them into reality. In bamboo architecture, models are a key in the bamboo building process; from concept to construction. Bamboo model making is not only a medium to express ideas but it is also a learning tool for architects.
Jules graduated from architecture school in Montreal Canada and decided to take a different path after he graduated. He went to Brazil to see his father, and quickly fell in love with bamboo. Then he moved to Bali to gain the relevant skills and expertise to become a bamboo architect because he believes bamboo is the perfect ambassador to introduce more people to the power of sustainable architecture. This podcast is about his journey to understanding the full capacity of bamboo as a building material.
