EPISODE 1
Treating Bamboo in
Your Backyard
Bamboo is susceptible to insects like termites, borers, the powderpost beetle, and even fungi. If not treated properly, bamboo products and structures will only last a few years before they are eaten to dust. But don’t get discouraged, there are many ways in which bamboo can be treated. In this article, we are going to talk about a special low-tech treatment option, the Vertical Soak Diffusion, or VSD.
Welcome to the intro episode of the Bamboo U podcast. My name is Orin and I’m really excited to bring you these interviews about design, creative thinking, nature-led architecture and bamboo! For those of you who haven’t heard of Bamboo U before, in this intro episode I will explain a little bit about what we do. As well as to tell you a bit about me, your host.
Bamboo U is more than a workshop, it is a place where we can create a better future. People come together here to reconnect. To work with their hands by making real bamboo structures, and by making their own bamboo designs come to life. We often see beautiful finished prototypes of lamps, chairs, intriguing art pieces, and detailed models of future bamboo houses. Learn why bamboo is the sustainable material of the future. If you are familiar with or have attended a Bamboo U course, just skip straight to the interviews.
