Orin Hardy

Orin is the founder and director of Bamboo U. He wants to inspire people around the world to choose bamboo as a viable alternative to conventional construction materials. He has designed a variety of bamboo structures in collaboration with architects and bamboo carpenters as part of his work in Bali.

IBUKU - Founder & Creative Director

Elora Hardy

Elora designs world class bamboo homes and structures that are changing the way we think about buildings. She spoke at TED Global in 2015 about IBUKU's innovations in bamboo building and design.

Indobamboo - Founder

Arief Rabik

Trained in environmental sciences, Arief is considered the world’s top bamboo forestry and harvesting expert. He is currently the director of the Environmental Bamboo Foundation and spending most of his time in east Indonesia spearheading his initiative to create 1000 Bamboo Villages in Indonesia. He is a member of the Indonesian delegation for COP 21, 22 & 23.

INBAR - Communications Officer

Leticia Oak

Leticia is an industrial designer with a strong background in bamboo and communication. Her work promotes the use of natural materials for craft development. She was a former Program Manager at Bamboo U where she facilitated bamboo hands-on construction courses.

Master Carpenter

I Ketut "Moko" Sumerta

Moko is a master carpenter trained in the Balinese tradition since the age of 10 and has since trained many carpenters. He is head of bamboo plank production at PT Bamboo Pure.

 

Boomaster Vietnam - Designer and Builder 

James Wolf

James Wolf is an industrial designer, product developer, entrepreneur and world renowned bamboo expert. Over the past 25 years he has established manufacturing capabilities, brands, and product lines in bamboo for clients all around the world, as well as managing B2B and e-commerce fulfillment of bamboo goods. 

IBUKU - Senior Architect

Defit Wijaya

Senior Architect at IBUKU and a member of the team since 2008. He has worked on the design of Green School since its original conceptual process, making him an expert in the evolution of bamboo structures.

He loves the exciting and dynamic environment of working on bamboo projects.

IBUKU - Architect & Bamboo Artisan

Doni Prabowo

Doni joined IBUKU in 2018 as an Architect and Bamboo Artisan. Since then he has developed different types of bamboo models for the studio for many unique bamboo structures. He is passionate about exploring designs that adapt to nature and exploring the forests of his hometown in Kalimantan.

Bamboo Architect 

Jules de Laage

Jules studied architecture at McGill university. He was introduced to bamboo construction in Brazil by Jörg Stamm. He came to Bali to help develop Bamboo U, where he stayed 3 years as program manager. He then worked for 2 years at Ibuku as an architect and project manager, and is now working in Mexico with Arquitectura Mixta.

Bamboo Carpenter

Vinc Math

German born carpenter Vinc Math works on bamboo projects around the globe teaching local craftsmen the skills to building with bamboo. His bamboo consultancy focuses on innovative construction solutions and educational workshops. Vinc's work includes the award-winning ZCB Bamboo Pavilion and Resplendent Ceylon’s Wild Coast Tented Lodge.

Atelier One - Lead Engineer

Neil Thomas

MIT lecturer and lead engineer at Atelier One, Neil is a lightweight tensile engineer. He has worked on major projects including Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, Anish Kapoor’s sculptures, and the Rolling Stones concert stages. His interest in bamboo resides in the sustainability and tensile properties of the material.

Bamboo Expert

Jörg Stamm

Originally a master carpenter in Germany, Jörg started working with bamboo alongside Simón Velez in Colombia, where he now resides. He is credited for building the longest bamboo bridges in the world and for developing the reciprocal bamboo towers used to hold up Green School’s largest building–The Heart of School.
